Minos Matsas, “Ekso”, at Athens Concert Hall Gardens, July 2014

An armful of 4000 people attended the live concert with songs and music by Minos Matsas, at the packed Athens Concert Hall gardens.

That summer night full of music and devoutness was the most moving moment in the composers solitary and introspective career.

It was the first time he dared to get onstage, half hidden behind his piano to perform his music,  with four great singers: Fotini Velesiotou, Eleonora Zouganeli, Andriana Babali, Giannis Haroulis and 10 great musicians.

Songs from his own discography and music themes from TV shows, cinema movies and theatre.

MAXI0829 low

Each one of the singers has his unique history with the composer, from older collaborations but also from new ones, since Giannis Haroulis, Eleonora Zouganeli and Fotini Velesiotou are with him at the studio recording new songs, some of which we were lucky enough to listen to yesterday night. (23/7)

For the specific concert though, four great voices also shared older hits which we learnt through Giorgos Dalaras, Haris Alexiou, Lavrendis Mahairitsas, Eleni Dimou and the late Dimitris Mitropanos.

The live came to an end with everybody on stage performing “Minore tis Avgis”, a song created by the composer’s grandfather, Minoas Matsa, accompanied of course by those lucky enough to attend this concert.

The tickets were sold out two days before the concert.

Many friends and coworkers were present at the concert, many of the verse writters that have worked with the composer, and other artists such as K. Markoulakis, Aggelos Papadimitriou, Tatiana Ligari, Giota Negka and others.

Ogdoo.gr, Minos Matsas – “Ekso” ston Kipo tou Megarou, by Kika. A. Roka

Minos Matsas, in the first concert with his name on the title, at the night of Wednesday 23rd of July presented a compilation of his compositions giving us a chance to have a spherical view of his work. […] The tickets were sold out from early on, and the audience overwhelmed every corner of the packed gardens.

Fotini Velesiotou, Eleonora Zouganeli, Andriana Mpampali & Giannis Haroulis were the singers the composer chose to perform his songs, under the sounds of carefully picked musicians – soloists

Everything indicated that it will be a cared production, both in the aspect of the choice of singers and musicians as well as the production, since as we entered the gardens we were offered the program of the concert – an idea I found excellent, as it isn’t common and the work of Minos Matsas, unfortunately isn’t widely known, so that way we could have a clearer view of what we are listening to.

GetGreekMusic.gr, 4000 people had fan “Ekso” with Minos Matsas, at his concert in the Athens Concert Hall Gardens

An evening full of music, moving moments and excellent guests. Fotini Velesiotou, Eleonora Zouganeli, Andrianna Mpampali and Giannis Haroulis, who were accompanied by the composer on the piano with 10 other great musicians […] The moving evening finale was carried out, with all the artists onstage singing “Minore tis Avgis”, a song by Minos grandfather, Minoas Matsas.

Imam Baildi: III, at “Melina Merkouri” Open Theatre, July 2014

Music, ethnic, folk, “rebetiko”, swing, hip hop, 5000 people, smiles, dance, friends and many surprises were the ingredients for a magical evening, that was enjoyed by those who were at “Melina Merkouri” Open Theatre on Monday the 14th of July.

Once again Imam Baildi set a great spectacle in their own unique perspective. Always creating images and colours equal to the music, and  with a project that is always carefully designed in advance, they performed a different but impressive live, uniting west with east, new with old, emotion with enthusiasm.

After the 35minutes appearance of the great Leon of Athens and his band, the 10 member band Imam Baildi, got onstage in the packed “Melina Merkouri” Open Theatre and started their most claimant live, till now, with “The Rider”, their orchestral song that opens their new album entitled III, and which is expected to leave a different radio footprint.

It was an evening where music had the leading part, with many emotions caused by the known and loved old songs, with energy that was transmitted by the tweaked new sounds of the band, with the approval of the audience for their new songs, and with the  love the audience showed towards the band and towards the unique guests, the band had invited.

Apart from the band’s singer Rena Morfi, who impressed with her voice and her explosive appearance, and their regular partner MC Yinka, other artists got onstage. Glykeria, Isvoleas, Giorgos Mazonakis and the percussion ensemble Batala.

The live came to and end with the song “Samba Clarina” and Mc Yinka playing in his own unique way, with the audience, and getting an applaud that big that brought the whole band up onstage to say goodbye to that magical evening with the song “Poso Lipame”.

3 albums, hundred kilometers for lives in Greece, Europe and America and 7 years after, Imam Baildi proved that we must be proud for the past and for the present of our music.

We will try to communicate the atmosphere of the concert and a taste of  the summer enthusiasm through texts and comments of some of the attendees.

Elli Papadopoulou

“Guys! I am still dancing! Really, I didn’t expect to see what I saw…Really! I was listening to Imam Baildi with pleasure on the radio but I hadn’t been to any of their lives and I didn’t know what to expect… Really, it was one of the best nights in the last few months. One of the best lives I’ve seen… in many months, we had a great time! What can I say… If you are an artist… it end there! I wish the band to have more successes!

Nelli Eksarhakou

“An amazing live by a genuine greek band who is able to combine rock sounds with rembetiko and modern greek sounds. The audience got that, and had fun participating nonstop for 3 hours! We are talking for a cultural event, not just a live concert.”

Alexis Ieridis, Imam Baildi – Melina Merkouri” Open Theatre 14/07/2014

“The day before yesterday (14/07) at the Melina Merkouri” Open Theatre I figured once again that there are greek bands that litteraly make a difference. I am referring to Imam Baildi, that not only they have achieved to combine, in an excellent way the old with the new one, but they have also created a unique sound that is characteristic of them.

I was so thrilled, that for two day I’ve been talking nonstop about them and the great live they performed. And think, that when I first listened to them on the radio, they didn’t make that an impression… but with time, some tv appearances, some known TV show soundtracks, something made me wanna attend their concert.

It’s not just a band, but an orchestra consisting of 10 member plus the guests artists every time. Their feminine voice, Rena Morfi, apart from the fact that she has an amazing voice, she is gorgeous, thing that is a huge plus to the band’s stage appearance. They are the Greek Pink Martini. They perform, favorite old greek songs, combined with modern sounds, with hip hop, and with amazing braffs  onstage that remind of Goran Bregovic. Balkans for sure! Savvopoulos himself said it… Goran might haven’t appeared, but the guest appearances of Glykeria and Mazonakis, were very successful. Congratulations to the concert planner EMI for this initiative. I think these voices fit perfectly the band’s sounds. Glikeria is a stable music value, and Mazonakis proved that he has a genuine folk voice. When he got onstage, there was such a noise from the crowd, that someone could think that it was his own live.

The visual part of the live was also successful. The games with the green – red lights, and the symbols on the rocks and the trees, binded perfectly with Imam’s colorful music.

It was perfect! For the first time in a live concert everyone was dancing, even the one’s sitting in the stands, and for the first time I didn’t event take a peak on what time it was.

Bravo to the band, that for sure has more to offer, and to the event planners for the absolutely perfect live!”

Eleonora Zouganeli: “Na me thimase kai na m’ agapas – Ta tragoudia tis Melinas, at Herodeion, July 2014

Na me thimasai kai na M’agapas” (Remember me and Love me). It is like a wish that came true. The night of the 10th of July was a night of memory and emotion. And everything was real. Even the moon.

Eleonora Zouganeli made a triple bet. To be confronted with the emotions that the name of Melina Merkouri awakes in everyone. To perform the songs that in our ears are still, and possibly forever, sung by Melinas voice. And achieve all these things in the Herodeion. In the most emblematic venue, which on the 10th of July carried an extra memory. The memory Melina did for the return of the marbles.

One of the bets was won for sure. The Herodeion was packed. The tickets were sold out. Everyone was there. From early on.

The concert began just in time in the packed Herodeion and everyone was looking for Melina on stage. The actors were shouting the name of the roles she marked. Stella, Ilya, Blans, Faidra, and Melina from the movie screen that was set as a background opens the windows and shouts “I am coming”. Eleonora performed the song “Agapi pou ‘gines” a Capella and from this point on, she began to win all the bets.

Eleonora Zouganeli “encountered” with Melina’s Songs. With the songs of Hadjidakis, Theodorakis, Ksarhakos, Markopoulos, Tsitsanis, Kurt Weill and she managed to move us. She managed to make these songs appear today shiny and realy. She managed to make us listen to them with her voice. She managed to bring a rare repertoire into the ears of the younger audience that follows her.

The participation of the great actor Betty Valasi, Melina Merkouri’s personal friend who introduced in her own unique way facts about Melinas life, was substantial and moving. A special moment of the concert was, when Eleonora Zouganeli performed with Betty Valasi the song “Anna min kles” and “Grapse Ouranos – Melina”, a brand new song that was writter by Evanthia Reboutsika and Lina Nikolakopoulou especially for this show.

And at the end of the evening, when Melina performed onscreen “Na me thimase kai na m’agapas” (Remember me and Love me) there was no doubt. We haven’t stopped remembering her. We haven’t stopped loving her. And we will not stop remembering that night. The night that Eleonora met Melina.

The performance was directed by the gifted Petros Zoulias, the man who managed to narrate and place us in the lives of heroines that we loved forever. The orchestration was done by Eleonora Zouganelis colleague, Evripidis Zemenidis and the violinist Antonis Sousamoglou.

The kamerata under Miltos Logiadis participated at the performance.

Melina tis fotias, Eleonora tis psihis… by Depy Golema

“The Herodeion threw fires. And there was a full moon, “my star, my moon” to stare us from above. It was the night when Eleonora, the most important new age artist, introduced the tribute to Melina. She infused with love and respect, with effort and hard work of the dozens of the participants, songs which, time and History have made their hearing a celebration.[…] The moments when she performed “kir Antoni” and “Agapi pou ‘gines dikopo maheri” alone on stage, were the most moving of the evening.

To fos tis Elladas, zimia! by Aris Davarakis

“I want to talk about Eleonora Zouganeli, who got up onstage charged with light and power and with her voice, her smile, her aura, her displacement, her movement, her self-control she emitted a conscious innocence[…]. Eleonora Zouganeli, holding hands with Melina Merkouri, at the packed Herodeion, on Thursday 10th of July, got up to the first rung of poetry without missing a step. She was there, whole, soul and boy, given to her art, concentrated to the next note, to the next movement, to the maestro’s Miltos Logiadis each movement.”

Giorgos Dalaras: “Rempetiko Unplugged”, at Athens Concert Hall Gardens, July 2014

Giorgios Dalaras appeared at Athens Concert Hall Garden on the 4th of July and excited the crowd with his performances on rebetiko songsΓιώργος Νταλάρας

Giorgos Dalaras introduced the performance “Rempetiko Unplugged, a big music trip-tribute to “rebetiko”, meeting great success on Friday 4th of July.  “Rebetiko” is a genre which the artist have approached with consistency and knowledge all these years. Beeing a deep knower of the “rebetiko” songs tradition, Giorgos Dalaras gave it a new boost, making it’s intertemporal elements known to people of all ages in Greece and in Europe. These songs by Vamvakaris and Tsitsanis, or by great composers from Smyrna such as Vaggelis Papazoglou or by other composers such as Apostolos Kaldaras and Apostolos Hadjihristos are the jewels of Greek music.

Giorgos Dalaras appeared to the packed Athens Concert Hall Gardens as a singer and musician (guitar, bouzouki, baglamas) with an excellent orchestra and two very talented singers: Aspasia Stratigou, his associate these last years, and the almost debut singer Athina Labiri, who is steeped in rebetiko, not only as a performer but also as a musician, in her own charming way. With them, singer and musician Vasilis Korakakis, son of the great folk composer Vaggelis Korakakis.

Giorgos Dalaras, with his unique performance in rebetiko songs and his imposing appearance charmed the crowd and took a music trip with the audience in other times.

Innocence, emotion and rempetiko unplugged at Athens Concert Hall Gardens

It had something of a picnik. With people who brought their sheets, their stools or their folding chairs. It had something of the innocence that existed at the concerts of the political changeover in Greece or at the concerts at Lycabettus. And it also had the great and moving picture of the patients at the nearby hospitals (NIMTS and Navy) who stood at their balconies to listen and see […] A two-hour set of rempetiko songs made people sing and applaud the great musician and the artists of the newer guard of folk and traditional songs.

Katerina Polemi & Katerine Duska: “Moondance”, at Athens Concert Hall Gardens, July 2014

Two young girls, Katerina Polemi and Katerine Duska enhanced the audience at Athens Concert Hall Gardens on the 2nd of July.

Athens Concert Hall Gardens have won a big part of the Athenian crowd and are considered to be an alternative summer place for quality music encounters.

On Wednesday 2nd of July, two young girls, Katerina Polemi and Katerine Duska, chose the Athens Concert Hall Gardens as a common place to cross cultures with multicultural elements using their own different temperaments.

The concert was opened by, the 16 years old, Areti Kosmidou, who performed a series of song covers – from Pixies to Joan Baez and from Arctic Monkeys to Tuxedo Moon – in great instrumentation by Manolis Famellos. Unpretending and moving as she was, she easily spread a fragile emotional mist and showed everyone that she is “steady on her feet”.
Next on stage was Katerine Duska, who performed soul, r&b and pop song covers with her characteristic “black” soulful voice. Gorgeous and discreet, she managed to impose herself with an excellent stage presence and with the ethereal mobility that characterizes her, she charmed the audience from the first song. The dark moments were not absent, such were not the light ones, like Theodosia’s Tsatsou “Sti Thalassa” song cover.

Next on stage was Katerina Polemi with a mix of afro-brazilian music, gypsy jazz, soul and also Bobby McFerrin and Arleta (Isiha Vradia by Lakis Papadopoulos). Katerina’s extroversion, musicality and explosive temperament lured the audience into a merry, cheerful musical dialogue. Communicative as always and with excellent sense of humor Katerina invited Katerine for the evening’s finale – the two girls coexisted at the stage three times throughout the concert – to say goodbye with a cover of ‘Je ne veux pas travailler’.

The great pianist Ludovico Einaudi made his first appearance in front of the Athenian public and fascinated those who were present at the packed – sold out – Athens Concert Hall. With the accompaniment of a marvellous orchestra that included string and percussion instruments, alongside the sound of guitar, bass and electronic elements, Ludovico Einaudi created an emotional and adventurous journey in time. A music feast, which mixed elements of romance, baroque, Italian Folk and minimalism, in an impressive timbre pallet.

Gifted with a unique sense of melody and rhythm, Ludovico Einaudi, “spoke” with his audience in a very human and touching way, using music as a mean and instrumentating our feelings. The particularly zealous audience saluted him with enthusiastic clapping, after an almost two hours appearance full of vivid feelings. Ludovico himself responded with the ascertainment of love and intimacy : “Una Faccia una razza” which means literally “One Face, One Race”. After the concert Ludovico appeared at the foyer of Athens Concert Hall, signed his albums and took photos with all the attendees. Our impressions from Yasmin’s Levy great appearance at Athens Concert Hall

The great singer of Sephardic music, Yasmin Levy, visited our country for the fourth time and fascinated those who were present at the packed –sold out- Athens Concert Hall. As soon as she got on stage she declared her love as well as, the influence from the greek music and the great greek singers on her artistic career.

yasmin levi megaro mousikis

One of the memorable moments of the evening was her duet with the great singer/composer Giannis Xaroulis, while they performed together the songs “Me Voy”, “Una Voche Mas”, “Xeimonanthos” plus an “untitled” traditional one. Surrounded by a “tuple” of exceptional musicians, with her husband being among them, she performed songs from her recent album “Libertad” but also from her previous ones too, as well as classic traditional ladino and meditteranean songs. Yasmin has been particularly communicative, giving a small description/translation of  every song she performed, contacting with the crowd in a very human and touching way. The crowd saluted her with enthusiastic clapping, after a moving two hour appearance full of vivid feelings.

Lavrendis Machairitsas: “Angels live on in the Mediterranean”, at Kallimarmaro Stadium, July 2012

50,000 people applauded Lavrendis Machairitsas and his guests

Lavrendis Machairitsas Kallimarmaro

“We are all Greeks”. That’s how Greek and foreign artists welcomed the audience in Lavrendis Machairitsas’ live gig at Kallimarmaro Stadium on Monday 10/7/2012.

Three generations of Greeks applauded all these artists and together they sang every verse of every song.

That was the Greek answer on the hope for the future. 50.000 people were there to testify for the Greek culture and civilization.

“We are all Greeks” said Bernard Lavilliers, the great French poet and songwriter, when he got onstage and greeted the audience in Greek.

lavrendis machairitsas kallimarmaro1

So did Christophe, who sang “Aline”, “Oh mon amour”, “The girl from Salina” and, together with Machairitsas, “Tandis Que” – “Even though”, taken from the “Angels live on in the Mediterranean” album.

Even the great (an visibly moved) Salvatore Adamo, said “Goodmorning Athens” in Greek and went on to add that he is very happy to be singing again at Kallimarmaro. His first time was in 1969. He then sang, together with Macahiritsas, “Au café du Temps Perdu” – “In the Lost Time café” (taken from Machairitsas’ “Angels live on in the Mediterranean” album) and went on to sing, in his own unique way, hiw classic hits “Mon Cinema”, “Incha Allah”, “La Nuit” and “Tombe La Neige”.

“We, the people of the Mediterranean, are united because we face the same problems and we have the same culture, which will keep us united forever”. That’s what Josep Tero, the Catalan singer said, when he got onstage. As for Tonino Carotone, he declared that he wants “to stay in Greece”and is about to start a series of live performances, all over Greece, together with Machairitsas. The two of them sang the famous “Tu Vuo Fa L’ Americano” – «Like an American», before Carotone went on to sing (in Greek, no less!) “It’s dumb and it’s bitter” as well as “Mondo Difficile”.

The Italian Ι ΝΟMADI were impressed by the packed Kallimarmaro and by the audience’s warm enthusiasm.

Lavrendis Machairitsas Kallimarmaro2

Angelo Branduardi said that he was excited to be in Greece and to be singing for his Greek friends.
Nikos Aliagas introduced Bernard Lavilliers, sang “A breath” (Le Souffle) in French, and Machairitsas’ “South” in a duet with the composer.

Piluka Aranguren and Eleonora Zouganeli and Elissavet Karatzoli also gave unique and moving performances.

The audience applauded Maria Farandouri, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Vassilis Papakonstantinou, Philippos Pliatsikas, Dionysis Tsaknis, Miltos Paschalidis and Giorgos Margaritis (who sang, along with Machairitsas, the beloved “I’m dying for you”).

The gig opened the French group FANTOM, who have just launched in France their latest album, featuring songs by Lavrendis Machairitsas.

Yiannis Kotsiras: Smyrna of love, Athens Concert Hall, March 2012

Yiannis Kotsiras Megaro Mousikis Athinon

Yiannis Kotsiras and the Estudiantina orchestra of Nea Ionia
90 years of memories through the all-time songs of Smyrna

On the 19th & 20th March 2012, the two concerts by Estudiantina and Yiannis Kotsiras, dedicated to the all-time love songs of Smyrna, filled the Athens Concert Hall with the most beautiful crowd.
The Christos Lambrakis Hall was packed with an eager audience who sang along with the artists, moved by memories. More than five generations of Greeks were there, proving, once more, that the Greek soul is here and keeps on fighting.

The concert was built around a repertoire of songs that left their mark during the 1920s, dating back to World War II: “Can’t find a woman like you”, “Beautiful girl of Smyrna”, “Antonis the boatman”, “Misirlou”, “The little vest”, “Young wife” etc.
The music that flourished at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th around Constantinople and Smyrna, is composed by radically different elements that have melted into one compelling sound.
Those were the songs that became the precursors of the [rebetiko] school of Piraeus, shaping such great composers as Kostas Skarvelis, Dimitris Semsis, Panagiotis Toundas, Spyros Peristeris, Nikos Roubanis, Giannis Dragatsis or Ogdondakis, Giannis Dalgas, Kostas Kofiniotis, Apostolos Chatzichristos and many more unknown artists.
Those songs were not just written in Smyrna. Those songs had something, anything, to do with Smyrna. They were either written there, or written by creators from Smyrna, who had since migrated to the Greek mainland.

The 1922 disaster changed the course of Greek history in a multitude of ways. Among other things, it brought to the mainland the great virtuosos of Smyrna, who would later combine their skill with that of their Greek counterparts. The music of the Estudiantinas, the orchestras that became the greatest school where the great creators of Asia Minor taught and learned, reached Greece around 1870. It started from the outskirts of Athens and soon spread to the center of the city. This kind of orchestra became the first and most original form of artistic bridge, by combining the different national, musical, cultural and creative attributes of two radically different worlds.

A host of friends and colleagues honored the artists with their presence at the concert. Among others: Makis Matsas, Margarita Matsa, Dimitris Mitropanos, Lavrendis Machairitsas, Stamatis Kraounakis, Evanthia Reboutsika, Panagiotis Kalantzopoulos, Mirka Papakonstantinou, Giannis Kyriakopoulos (KYR), Antonis Mitzelos, Mara Meimaridi, Eleonora Zouganeli, Rallia Christidou, Babis Tsertos, Vassilis Vassilikos, Vasso Papandoniou, Kostas Arvanitis, Dimitris Bassis and Chronis Aidonidis.
Giannis Kotsiras and Andreas Katsigiannis dedicated the concert to the memory of Domna Samiou.

“Smyrna of love”, a live concert in a packed Concert Hall
“For as long as there are songs, there will be Greece too. And anyone who is looking for a good omen, should have seen it in the crowds that filled yesterday and the day before the Christos Lambrakis Hall, for the Estudiantina and Yiannis Kotsiras live concert (art direction by Andreas Katsigiannis).
“Smyrna of love” is also the Smyrna of unrequited passion, the Smyrna of worry and erotic invitations and serenades. The concert was a cascade of passion and rhythm, with the famous and prize-winning Estudiantina of Nea Ionia, with the rich and ripe sound of traditional instruments, which are played to perfection thanks to its great soloists…
The “Smyrna of love” concert should be presented at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, in front of foreigners too –so that they understand, when the whole theatre will be singing along with the orchestra, that Greece and singing go hand in hand and they never die.
Eleni Bistika, Kathimerini, Wednesday 21 March 2012

Smyrna of love at the Athens Concert Hall, with Giannis Kotsiras and the Estudiantina orchestra
“Our journey to the Smyrna of Love lasted for about two hours and was certainly one of the most beautiful ones I have ever done. If nothing else, Yiannis Kotsiras and the Estudiantina reminded us that these are songs worth having in our lives…
I can also say that the cd recording and the live experience were one and the same thing! These people have done an extraordinary job in proving that there’s still a quality element in the music world. Quality is when someone takes the risk to record these songs in the studio, together with all the members of the Estudiantina! You are not changing a thing, so the music and voices remain authentic”.
Ioulia Tziva, e-periodiko, Wednesday 21 March 2012

I was there…
“The concert was wonderful. Today, Tuesday, is the last day -don’t miss it. People of Smyrna are long gone. Even the youngest ones are leaving us, one by one. Let’s at least make sure that their songs will remain, as a cultural heritage, in our hands”.

Giannis Parios: “Circle of love” at the Athens Concert Hall, February 2012

14.000 people applauded Giannis Parios

The voice of love, the one and only Giannis Parios, was applauded by audiences during the first of his seven scheduled performances (14,15,16,17,18, 20 & 21/2) at the Athens Concert Hall.
In Valentine’s Day, Giannis Parios, accompanied by the Contemporary Music Orchestra of the Greek State TV (under the direction of conductor Andreas Pylarinos), a 12-member folk orchestra and the big choir of Kyriakos Tsolakis, presented a selection of his greatest hits about love, and carried everyone in the audience along with him in an emotional sing-along.
The set direction and light design by Eleftheria Deco, together with the wonderful videos, everything concurred to create a magical atmosphere.

After 40 years of artistic presence, Giannis Parios wanted to offer his special tribute to the world of love songs, beginning with his own “I think it’s love”. He dedicated his second song to the founder of MINOS record company, Minos Matsas. It was “You are family for me”, composed by Matsas’ beloved grandson, the great hit of the “Island” TV series.
He then went on to sing his own popular songs, as well as some of the ones he got to love over all these years: “Come for tonight” by Christos Chairopoulos, “The floor” by Stamatis Kraounakis, “Have a little patience” by Vassilis Tsitsanis, “You are laughing” by Kostas Kapnissis and Giorgos Oikonomidis, “The night that stole you away” by Mimis Plessas and more.
The highlight of the evening was seeing onstage the great composer and soloist Giorgos Katsaros, singing his song “Can’t forget you”.
The evening closed with Giannis Parios passing his life in review through his own verses, written especially for this program, to the music of the legendary song “My way”, which moved everyone to tears.
Makis and Roula Matsa, Dimitris Kontominas, Giannis (KYR) Kyriakopoulos, Evi Kyriakopoulou, Agapi Vardinogianni, Mr and Mrs Chatzinassios, Kostas Tsitsanis, Nikos Oikonomopoulos, Grigoris Valtinos, Archondoula Papapanagiotou, Sofia Aliberti and many others honored Parios with their presence.

Three hours of singing about love
“Last Wednesday, on Valentine’s Day, Giannis Parios marked the beginning of his performances at the Athens Concert Hall, doing exactly what he does in every performance of his: he spread out his soul, like a red carpet, covered in melodies and verses instead of rose petals, so that the audience can step on it and feel special…
All through the show, people grabbed every chance to express their enthusiasm (“you are great”, “you are unbelievable”, “the greatest voice ever” etc.). If nothing else, the 14.000 tickets for his sold-out performances speak for themselves…”
Sonia Mangina, Adesmeftos Typos, Friday 17 February 2012

Singing about love
“At the premiere, the “Singer of love”, as he has established himself in our minds and our hearts, deeply affected by the audience’s enthusiasm, thanked everyone who, in such dire circumstances, bought a ticket, in order to see him live. His beautiful voice and the soul energy he put in every song, moved the people, who applauded him fiercely from the Athens Concert Hall stalls.
The performances, which sold out within the first hours of pre-sale, take place with the assistance of the Contemporary Music Orchestra of the Greek State TV, under the direction of Andreas Pylarinos, and are a tribute to Parios’ 40 years of artistic presence…”
Christina Zachou, Real news, Sunday 19 February 2012

Giannis Parios. The singer of love par excellence stirred the audience at his Athens Concert Hall performance.
“The finale was emotionally charged, with Parios dedicating to Makis Matsas his favorite foreign song, “My Way”, which he had adapted for the day with his own, Greek lyrics. As an honest review of his life and career, his “This is what I am”, made him confess to the audience: “You see, down in Paros I didn’t have the chance to learn English very well, so I’m going to sing in Greek in order to say what I want to say”. The repeated encores made him appear two more times onstage, where he sang an island song, as well as “This is what I am”, once more. A reception followed immediately after the show, at the foyer, with all his friends congratulating the one and only Giannis Parios from the bottom of their hearts”.
Giovanna Vlachava, Hello, Wednesday 29 February 2012

A classic
“The perfomances of Giannis Parios at the Athens Concert Hall not only sold out but also made the organizers add more nights to those initially scheduled. Trends come and go, but the voice and repertoire of the “singer of love” stay unaffected by the passage of time”.

Eleonora Zouganeli at the “Melina Merkouri” Open Theatre.

 Featuring her friends:
Natassa Bofiliou,
Kostis Maraveyas,
Panos Mouzourakis,
Imam Baildi

“Melina Merkouri” Open Theatre, Wednesday 7 September 2011.

An audience of 6000 flooded the tiers of the open theatre to enjoy the new generation of Greek singers in action. Hostess Eleonora Zouganeli was accompanied by her friends Natassa Bofiliou, Kostis Maraveyas, Panos Mouzourakis and the Imam Baildi, in this wonderful musical adventure.
From early in the afternoon, one could see groups of youths climbing the Vyronas’ hill, humming their own favorite songs, the ones that mark their own beginning in life. These same songs they would later hear by the mouths of artists who, within a few years, have managed to become their idols.
At the same time, those with backstage access could see another large party, the one of the artists, who, despite their stress for the show, were celebrating this magical youthful night with nothing but laughs, jokes, advice and a deep awareness of their team effort and of their need to support one another.
As time went by and the seats filled fast, both in the theatre tiers and in the surrounding grass area, backstage adrenaline peaked. At 21.30 sharp, the band started playing and people started applauding. From within the darkness, Eleonora started her own journey, with the surefootedness of a great artist and the freshness and vitality of her youth. Her wonderful onstage presence let her theatre education and dancing skills shine through, while her riveting voice won over even the most skeptical of her listeners.
Her repertoire, boundless; her choices ranged from her own songs to favorite international hits to great Greek popular songs of the past.
Gradually, she started presenting her featured guests, singing with them the most imaginative, unexpected and creative duets. Kostis Maraveyas was first, singing with Zouganeli his own hit «I’m not asking for much» as well as Dionysis Savvopoulos’ «Stop talking about love». The two of them called Panos Mouzourakis and together they sang their hit “Kiss me more”. Mouzourakis remained onstage for a take on Zouganeli’s “I’m leaving for myself” and “Come”.
It was time for Zouganeli’s first interpretation of her new song “See you”, adapted from the Italian hit “Bastardo” by Sunny Baltzi. She went on to sing her longtime favorites by Greek artists (“I won’t forgive us”, “I fell out with love” etc) as well as her own hits. Next came Natassa Bofoliou, with whom she sang “It is strength I’m talking about”, “Feeling good” and “Heavy cigarettes”. After a selection of Zouganeli’s Greek and foreign hits, Imam Baildi came onstage with their own covers of “Sunsets on the beach” and “We exchanged harsh words”.
A highlight came the moment Zouganeli asked Kostas Livadas to accompany her for the recent “You remind me”, in music and lyrics by Livadas himself.
Leaving the theatre, dizzy with a kind of fiery joy, we could not help feeling that that night would remind us, for years to come, that it took just one moment, just one night, for these young singers to forge a new and promising future with nothing but their talent, devotion and hard work.

Starting at the end of October, Eleonora Zouganeli will sing live at the refurbished Gazoo music stage.
Direction: Eleni Gassouka
Set design: Giorgos Gavalas

Orchestration: Giorgos Zachariou
Featuring Thanassis Alevras and Sofia Kourtidou

Soundtrack of a generation
“Youthful tempo. Daring mixes that may look extreme, but in reality they sound just right. A great score of integrated music aesthetic. Above all, the charming voice and presence of Eleonora Zouganeli and her friends: Kostis Maraveyas, Panos Mouzourakis, Natassa Bofiliou, the Imam Baildi and Kostis Livadas have already made their mark and left an impression on the youngest between us”.
Natali Hatziandoniou, Eleftherotypia, 9 September 2011

I was there too
Greece still knows how to have a good time
“The great thing for someone who is in the know about what’s happening in Greek music is that they can clearly see when the new generation comes and the previous one starts retreating. It usually happens naturally, without too many words or rolls of drums, just with the healthy ardor of things that are ready to happen.
Eleonora Zouganeli in Vyronas. Six thousand people in “Melina Merkouri” Open Theatre –it was one of the few times that we had the chance to see it full.
It’s Eleonora Zouganeli and her friends. Her own generation: Natassa Bofiliou, Kostis Maraveyas, Panos Mouzourakis, the Imam Baildi and a slightly older Kostas Livadas, who has also written a new song for her.
The aura of a healthy youth that is capable of naming its own stars. A youth capable of connecting with just a click (through the internet) and of making its own hits, though its own choices.
The thing that matters is that Zouganeli’s show at Vyronas’ Open Theatre (which didn’t fully operate this year) made 6000 people (youths, parents with kids, groups of 40-something’s, couples in love and 12-year old with their mothers) to climb up there and enjoy the happiest post-summer night in the city. At last, a part of Greece that can still have a good time”.
Charis Pontida, Ta Nea, 13 Septemvriou 2011

Worthy but not costly
«They didn’t want to fool anybody those young singers up in “Melina Merkouri” Open Theatre. They didn’t sell their tickets in crazy prices. Natassa Bofiliou, Panos Mouzourakis, the Imam Baildi and Kostis Maraveyas, all of them accompanying Eleonora Zouganeli, gave their best and made an impression. The new generation of Greek singers is uninhibited, as it is down-to-earth, talented, ever inquiring, united and fearless. These kids know how to keep walking confidently, even in hard times, and they know how to understand the needs of a society in crisis, how to work hard, silently and to the point, how to make their own musical ways, how to show respect for their audience”.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour at Dream City Seaside, Thursday 23 June 2011

Asteroids Galaxy Tour Dreamcity Seaside

A co-production by Live Event ΕΜΙ/Eleven for a Heineken corporate event

Heineken celebrated a new era for its brand with an exceptional party, full of stars! On the night of Thursday 23 June, the Dream City Seaside night club was transformed so as to welcome all the Heineken “stars”: its new bottle, Man of the World, and The Asteroids Galaxy Tour group too, in their first live show in Greece.
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour come from Denmark, together with their first album, “Fruit”, out in 2009, as well as new songs from their EP “The Golden Age”. The band was formed in 2008 by singer Mette Lindberg and producer Lars Iversen. In their live shows, the two of them become six, featuring a trumpet, a saxophone, a guitar and drums.
They started out as forcefully as it gets, becoming the opening act for an Amy Winehouse gig in Copenhagen. Following that, their songs “Around The Bend” and “The Golden Age” were used in TV spots by multinational companies.
It was Heineken’s wish, given the stir their spot caused among the Greek audience, and the group’s success, to invite them for their first live in Greece. It was this wish that became reality after Asteroids Galaxy Tour’s fascinating show, which excited everyone at the Dream City Seaside night club.

Heineken Star Night
The “stars” of Heineken shone in a special night at the Dream City Seaside night club!
The night’s highlight was The Asteroids Galaxy Tour live show. The audience cheered them frantically when they played the popular Golden Age, the song had been making waves thanks to the Heineken TV spot. The group’s singer, Mette Lindberg, had everyone in the audience on their toes!

Bebe in “Athinon Arena”, for the first time in Greece

Bebe live in Athens

On Friday, May 6, 2011, in the Athinon Arena live music stage, the famous Spanish singer Bebe gave her first ever Athens show, which made great success. The artist had decided to keep Athens as the last stop of her tour, during which she presented her latest album, “Y”. The tour finale was celebrated with this appearance, which had been greatly expected by the Greek audience and which left the audience of 2500 nothing but excited.

In front of an exceptional band, the smiling Bebe sang, danced, swinged onstage, and swept us away in her crazy rhythm, all the while moving everyone of us with her voice.

All the songs that were heard came from her two albums: her golden debut “Pafuera Telaranas” and the latest “Υ”. Bebe sang “Me fui”, “Con mis manos”, “Siempre Me Quedara” and charmed us with an alternative version of her top hit “Malo”.

The biggest surprise? When the first notes from Zorba were heard and Bebe tried to dance, combining the Greek and latin rythms, with everyone in the audience clapping in rhythm.

Her Spanish temperament dominates the stage, while her sensuality, duende and passion for music cannot go unnoticed. The new face of Spanish music in Europe is a modern girl, a modern-day Carmen, who doesn’t shy from playing –with her musicians, with music, with life itself.

The show finale was a real party. Bebe sang «Siete horas» while everyone was dancing, laughing, singing. She even said goodnight in Greek!

“Thank you for this wonderful night, I thank you with all my love. Make love and love each other as much as you can” she said. We thank her too for the magical night she offered us!

In the (latin) rhythm with Bebe!
The dynamic musician from Valencia offered a night of magical listening to her fans, who enthusiastically filled an unexpected music stage… During the show, Bebe started to reveal more and more of her explosive self and of a unique sensuality that only the Spanish temperament can inspire. It was nothing but impressive for her audience, which suddenly found itself in front of a young, modern girl, becoming one with her songs and expressing both sorrow and a beautiful folly that knows no limit.
Christina Gryllaki, click at life, Tuesday 10 May 2011
She charmed us and left, no less happy herself!
Bebe is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting and noteworthy Spanish singers. On Friday night we had, for the first time in Greece, the chance to enjoy her show –my impressions of that night are, frankly, the best. It was a great show by a real artist!
She charmed us and left, no less happy herself!

Bebe: a taste of Andalusia in Athens
Everyone is singing “Con mi manos”. People of various ages, but mostly youths, who know every single song, sing and dance. The place is not what you would expect for a live music show. There is enough space for us to dance and move, plus the sound is really good. The stage is quite big, with a runway that Bebe walks and dances, together with a young man who steps on it…
On stage, Bebe reminds me of a ‘70s rock star. She moves frantically, she rolls on the floor, she kisses the guitarists… she flirts, talks, shouts, sings, dances.

Patty charmed children and adults alike with her shows at the Faliro Tae Kwon Do

Patty Live in Athens

Laura Esquivel visited Greece and charmed children and adults alike,
with her singing and dancing super show!

“Patty, the most beautiful show” in numbers :
12 hours of extraordinary show
8 sold out shows over 3 days
35 onstage dancers
Audience of 32000
Crew of 150

A super show filled with special effects, impressive lightning and dynamic choreography
that kept an audience of 32000 on their toes

Laura Esquivel, accompanied by 35 young and talented dancers, came to Athens and presented 8 extraordinary shows. Young fans of the ugly duckling of the Greek TV were so excited about her visit that tickets went in no time.
32000 friends of Patty’s, young and older, had the chance to enjoy her unique dancing and singing show on Friday 11, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 February, at the Faliro Tae Kwon Do Stadium.

Alexandra Rassimov was chosen to play Antonella and Louis Georgiou as Matias –both from the ANT1 Fame Studio School. Elena Kotidou was given the role of Zozefina.

The art direction of the show was the work of Frosso Ralli, who, along with her exceptional team (direction by Stefano Sartini, direction of photography by Stefano Calatroni, choreography by Maria Lyraraki), created the biggest and most enjoyable children’s production ever presented in Greece!

Eleven Concerts and Link4U took on the technical production and coordination of the show.
This was the first show of a foreign artist that MINOS EMI organized for the Greek audience.

* Make-up and hair styling by SEVENTEEN & LORVENN Paris.

* Costumes by ATTRATTIVO, shoes by CONVERSE.

Patty without braces
Imagine 5000 people, inside the stadium, singing along to every song, in a Greek-Spanish language mix, screaming “yes” or “no” and “wow”-ing whenever they were called to defend Patty, knowing every remix by heart. The truth is, the show was better than I had expected. The story of the ugly duckling growing into a swan doesn’t appeal to me. But this gig, at least on the direction part, didn’t look like anything that I have seen in the past. The interchanges were quick, the choreography was nice, and there were fireworks, balloons, explosions, videos that kept the rhythm going between prose and singing parts. Nobody stopped dancing during the 2-hour show of Patty, the most pop story of all. As for the video walls (on the sides, in front and behind us), they took the role of relay stations, allowing the children to watch anything they couldn’t see clearly on stage.
Sandy Tsandaki, Kathimerini, 15 February 2011

Patty, the most beautiful concert
That was an exceptional production, with a host of talented actors, musicians and singers. Laura Esuivel proved once again that she’s not the new teen idol for nothing. She was an absolute professional in every show, she didn’t seem to get tired at all and made us all move to her rhythm. We had a ball! Note that director Stefano Sartini really contributed to this amazing outcome!
Katerina magazine, 24 February 2011

It’s Patty mania
The story of young Patty came alive onstage, with Laura alternating between speaking Greek and Spanish and writing in her diary. It was a dancing and singing show that recited, over 90 minutes, the sweet story of 13-year old Patricia: her move to Buenos Aires, her fights with Antonella and, eventually, her success in winning Matias’ heart.
The young friends of Patty’s arrived at the show in full gear, with pigtails, braids, and everything in between.
Celebrity mums and dads took their young daughters by hand and had a ball with their little ones, singing every single hit by Laura Esquivel.

Aπό  την ταινία του Jules Dassin Never on Sunday “Ποτέ τη Κυριακή” όπου πρωτοακούστηκε το “Πάμε μια βόλτα στο φεγγάρι”, στην ταινία του Εlia Kazan “America America” και “T’ αστέρι του βοριά” που ακούστηκε εκεί, και από την ταινία του Dusan Makavejev “Sweet Movie” και “Tα παιδιά κάτω στον κάμπο”, στην “Μπαλάντα του Ούρι (Αχ ουρανέ)” από την ταινία του Jean Negulesco “The Heroes” και στη συνέχεια πολλά αγαπημένα μοναδικά τραγούδια από τις συνεργασίες του Μάνου Χατζιδάκι σε διεθνείς μεγάλες κινηματογραφικές παραγωγές με τους πιο σημαντικούς σκηνοθέτες και ηθοποιούς της γενιάς του.
